The Check In
I have a confession: I made a mistake when I opened up my books for career support services this summer. I was 100% sure my bookings would drop off for June, July, and August. My core audience will be busy working outdoors, using that hard-earned PTO, and otherwise enjoying the sun, I reasoned. I’ll have lots of time to work on the back end while my books are slow, I assured myself.
I was wrong. June was my busiest month yet and July is shaping up to be even busier. It’s a great problem and I’m certainly not complaining. I’m loving meeting job seekers across the country (Hello to all of you out there! You’re my favorite!), even when it means working beyond my already packed 40-hour-week “regular” job.
But in the service of my sanity, and in service to YOUR juicy feedback in the newsletter survey last month, The Unseasoned Weekly is going on a two week “working vacation.” I wanted to do this background newsletter adjustment work while still publishing weekly but unfortunately, it just isn’t happening!
When we return July 15, you’ll find all of what you’ve loved about the Unseasoned Weekly, glowed up to include:
Deeper insights into industries that align well with outdoorsy professional backgrounds
A renewed focus on career-building check-in topics
2–3x more curated job listings for paid subscribers
And more, as the length-limit allows!
Been wanting to send me your Unseasoned wish list? Now is the time! My DMs and email replies are always open for your ideas and feedback.

Heard on Social
Am I glad Idaho Senators Crapo and Risch spoke out against public land sales? Yes. Am I celebrating - nah. Here’s why:
@bridgetmmoran said: “A huge ‘thank you’ to you and Erica (@awkwardangler) for helping me understand why the last three days on social media has felt…weird (kinda icky, honestly). Lots of privilege out there, which could be awesome if tapped to protect the people.”

How I’d Apply
Have you worked in fire - city, county, or wildland? You might just be able to leverage your unique background into a role with Lion as an Account Manager (Remote).
Unique Value Proposition (UVP):
Sales roles are all about relationship building, and your target audience (firefighters and those who equip them) trust peers who "have been there." Someone with previous fire experience can immediately build rapport with decision-makers in departments, training centers, and safety organizations. This helps offer insider credibility that most sales professionals can't replicate.
Sample Resume Bullet Point (Daily River Guide):
Trusted Expertise: Conducted gear inspections, maintenance, and training on fireline equipment, fostering a deep technical understanding of PPE performance in the field and enabling authentic, credibility-based sales conversations with fire professionals.
Flags / Interview Questions to Ask:
Ask the interviewer: “Can you share examples of how your most successful Account Managers engage in social selling? How much of this role is focused on digital engagement versus traditional relationship-based sales?”
Why: If social media engagement and outreach is going to be part of your strategy, you want to know in advance. This type of relationship-building isn’t well suited to everyone.
Network: Khalil Searcy is one of the Lion team who posted this opportunity to his network. Consider reaching out concisely and respectfully on LinkedIn to indicate your interest.
Continuing Ed: Never worked with CRM software? Check out a Salesforce tutorial before your first interview.
