The Check In
Wow, I’ve been publishing this weekly newsletter since late December, with the closing of May marking over twenty issues! It’s been really fun to see the newsletter community grow over these last months.
Because I always want the newsletter to be as useful as possible for you, today I’m asking a favor.
Will you tell me what keeps you opening this newsletter and what I can leave behind?
If you only have time for a short poll, I get it. See below.
And if you’d be willing to give more substantial (say 5-10 minutes of your time) feedback, I’d be forever thankful. Survey link here.
Reply with anything else I should know, and thank you for being here!

Heard on Social
I love what happens in the comment section on these reels! This one struck a cord not just with outdoor seasonals but also with social workers, teachers, combat vets, and more.
@dr.sam.liles said: “Excellent. Every veteran sitting down in their first corporate meeting has a similar experience. Sitting in board meetings or senior management meetings I’d be all calm and collected. People are like “don’t you care!?” I’m thinking nobody is dying, nobody shooting at us, the dams haven’t collapsed, we’ve got food and water. No issue.”

How I’d Apply
Ready to put those “soft” skills to use? Forma is hiring a Customer Success Manager (Remote).
Unique Value Proposition (UVP):
Anyone who has worked in a service-oriented outdoor role - especially in guiding and recreation - has essentially been a customer success manager. This job description excerpt should sound right up your alley! “Your primary goal is to foster strong relationships with customers, ensuring they are getting the most value from our products/services.”
Sample Resume Bullet Point (Daily River Guide):
Trust Building: Led pre- and post-trip briefings that increased itinerary understanding and guest confidence, resulting in a 20% increase in repeat bookings and consistently positive reviews across platforms.
Flags / Interview Questions to Ask:
Ask the interviewer: “The job description mentioned the importance of deescalating challenging situations with professionalism. Can you share an example of a time when an employee was required to do this, and what success looked like?”
Network: It’s your lucky day! Darcy Lattof, Manager of the Customer Success Team At Forma, lives in Denver and previously worked with Outward Bound.
Continuing Ed: Never worked with CRM software? Check out a Salesforce tutorial before your first interview.
